Becoming a Powerful Healer

It became clear to me a few months ago that to teach what I do (or aspects of it), the best thing I can do is teach how to heal yourself deeply, and come into ever-clearer self-knowledge. When you follow this path, you discover your purpose, you learn to follow the direction of your inner guide, and you learn how to listen for Spirit’s direction at all times in all matters, including how to conduct healing.

Another way of putting this:

  1. Clear yourself out (of all the crud that accumulates in our systems in this culture) and your overall vibrational level will rise. You will be able to channel higher frequencies of energy, which is automatically healing. This is why it is innately healing to be in the presence of someone who’s energy system is in a higher, clearer state: they raise the vibration in the whole room.
  2. As your energetic space gets clearer and clearer (as you heal), your perception will expand. This is another automatic side-effect of raising your overall vibration. You will be able to see into other “dimensions” (= real stuff that we don’t typically notice because it lies outside our current limited perceptual field).
  3. You will access levels of perception and clarity in which Spirit/God/Source will speak directly to you. And yes, God knows exactly what needs to be healed in any situation, and the best way to carry it out.

The typical path for becoming a holistic practitioner has been getting certified in a particular system. While this kind of training can be very useful and provide excellent tools, your power as a healer comes from the depth of your own personal integration and healing. Spirit has been very clear with me over the years that – aside from my initial training with Colin Chipps – all of my knowledge was to come through experience.

This is a sea change in thinking about qualification and authority. It is a shift toward the feminine modality, that honors the path of lived experience and wisdom more than someone else’s stamp of approval. It honors inner knowing as much as outer knowing.

Spirit is your own best teacher, and your own spirit is your surest guide toward using your gifts fully. You can gain tools and techniques from others, but ultimately your deepest healing work will come from who you have become, rather than what you do or how you do it.

Healer Maintenance and Right Relationship

I am currently offering energy healing sessions four days a week. I will do up to 3 sessions per day. I believe I will need to take one week off every month or two.  So far it has been a challenge for me to be able to do even this many sessions.  The work itself does not deplete me; to the contrary, it is rather energizing and fills me with love and positive energy. The challenge is to keep my energy system in good enough shape to hold the intensity of focus I need to direct healing energies powerfully. There are occasional days where I have just not been able to hold my energy at the level needed to do this healing work well. There are two reasons I have discerned so far for this.

  1. Physical health: being tired, sick, or having a low energy level low for some other reason (hormonal, diet)
  2. Other energy demands in my life. Keeping it all in balance–2 teenage kids, marriage, etc.
  3. Right relationship: This may be the underlying cause of #1 actually. I notice that doing this work requires me to be in right relationship with all beings that I interact with. For instance, I had a yucky fight with my partner one night, and did not speak or listen very truly. The next day, my energy was low. That night, I requested a “redo” conversation, which went much better, and my energy level rose.

Another example of this is my relationship with my food. This is an ongoing healing process for me. This past fall I undertook an intensive gut-healing regime. One piece I added to it (inspired by an article by Cynthia Nado in The Journal of Shamanic Practice) was to greet the spirit/energy of the food I was consuming, offer it my blessing and healing if needed, and ask its blessing in return. Specifically I would ask for it to heal my body. The spirits of animals killed for meat often need healing, just a touch to help their spirits move into the next phase (same as humans who have died suddenly or in trauma).

I have also had to take steps to change my membership in various groups, to bring myself into right relationship with the people in it. I stopped being a decision-making member in one group, which immediately restored “rightness” to my friendships with several people in the group.

The principle behind the significance of “right relationship” is simply that we are all interconnected–humans, plants, animals, rocks, earth herself. If I am inappropriately influencing someone else or being influenced by someone, it pulls me out of balance. If I am engaging in work that my spirit (and life purpose) tells me I should not, then that work becomes an energy drain, and my energy goes there instead of to the work I am called to do, which will energize me. In regard to work, the question should never be “Who can I/we get to do this work?” but rather, “What work do I/you feel called to do right now?”

It is not realistic to think I can be in right relationship with everything all the time, but having my intention set that way, and being willing to make changes when they come to my attention, seems to be enough.

Stepping into Energy Healing

I have been professionally offering intuitive readings for 3 years. There has been a voice niggling at me saying that the informational readings are good, but not essential to people. I have felt drawn to do more intensive energy healing work, but kept getting hung up on “Who will teach me?” But I’ve almost always had to learn on my own, so that I would know the way from experience.

Three weeks ago, I began offering energy healing sessions to interested clients, and all of a sudden, I can tell that I am working at a whole new level. Working in silence during the session allows me to stay at a deeper level, and clients laying at rest on the table allows them to relax into a space where deeper healing is possible.

It feels so natural to me to do this work, almost like a relief. I feel that this is the work I’ve always been meant to do. (I’ve caught myself saying frequently this past year, “I just know it is possible to heal with the hands, just by moving energy; if only I knew how!” It turns out I do know how!)  It is easier for me to do than the readings, and I just intuitively know what to do next and where to start. It feels like conducting a beautiful symphony.

One of the most delightful aspects of doing this work is that I learn fascinating things in every session. These findings and wonderings are what this blog is about. I hope to connect with other healers doing similar exploratory work.
